heaven is home

Last Supper Discourses 1 * “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith * in God; have faith also in me. 2 In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? 3 * And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be. a 4 Where [I] am going you know the way.” * 5 Thomas said to him, “Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth * and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. b 7 If you know me, then you will also know my Father. * From now on you do know him and have seen him.” c 8 Philip said to him, “Master, show us the Father, * and that will be enough for us.” d 9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the

truths, lies and beliefs

Image
in today's world the differences between truths, lies and beliefs have become blurred. let's review their definitions:  truth is something that we know to be true. truth is a fact. we have proof that something is true, e.g. gravity. in 1684 Sir Issac Newton, one of the greatest scientists and mathematicians that the world has known, provided scientific and mathematical proof that gravity existed. Newton's law of universal gravitation remains unchallenged for more than 300 years. lies are falsehoods--the opposite of truths. the veracity of a lie cannot be proven. lies have no provable and/or repeatable facts to back them up. beliefs are things that we believe to be true. beliefs are not facts because there isn't provable and repeatable scientific data to back them up. it's been estimated (an estimate is not a fact) that despite all of the scientific breakthroughs and Nobel Prizes for discoveries, that scientists only understand 4% of the universe.  ‘Scientists only u

psalm 23

Image
1 A psalm of David. I The LORD is my shepherd; * there is nothing I lack. a 2 In green pastures he makes me lie down; to still waters he leads me; 3  b  he restores my soul. He guides me along right paths * for the sake of his name. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, c I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff comfort me. II 5  * You set a table before me in front of my enemies; * You anoint my head with oil; * d my cup overflows. e 6 Indeed, goodness and mercy * will pursue me all the days of my life; I will dwell in the house of the LORD  f for endless days. an itch that you can't scratch

you know what it's like--an itch that you can't scratch.  https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Itch.jpg Orrling and Tomer S, CC BY-SA 3.0 <https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0>, via Wikimedia Commons heaven is kind of like that.  all kinds of superlatives have been used to try to describe heaven, but words, our senses and our minds are inadequate to comprehend heaven.  "What eye has not seen, and ear has not heard, and what has not entered the human heart, what God has prepared for those who love him." 1 Corinthians 2:9 it's like an itch that we can't scratch--not now anyway. won't it be wonderful when we can finally experience God's glory and the magnificence of God's plan?  the itch that we can't scratch now won't itch any more.  public domain Entrance to heaven, cloudscape over Oregon state and the P… | Flickr

contemplating heaven

Image
"In heaven, we will be inebriated with unspeakable joy. Sleep will never come as it will not be necessary. Our souls will be stilled in the presence of God, and our restless hearts will finally be at rest. There will be no sorrow, pain or suffering. The greatest desires of our hearts will be satisfied beyond measure. We will rejoice without end with the angels and Saints. We will be able to contemplate the face of God forever." What Will We Do in Heaven?

Image
" Revelation 4:8 reads, 'Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying: ‘ Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,‘ who was, and is, and is to come.’ So this tells us about the four creatures (more on them in a moment), but what about everyone else? Revelation 5:11-12 continues to tell us about singing, this time adding in the angelic host. 'Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they were saying: ‘Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!’ After the creatures and the elders and the angels, finally we are added in to this singing. Revelation 5:13-14 reads, 'Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth

explaining heaven

Image
God, Trinity, heaven, kingdom of God, eternal, infinity, the universe, its beginning, etc. explaining these is something like Albert Einstein trying to explain his theory of relativity to a dog or cat--and we're the dog or cat. The intellectual gap between God and man is more like the intellectual gap between Einstein and a rock.  text (not subject to copyright) Creative Commons — Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 2.0 Generic — CC BY-NC-ND 2.0

how many heavens are there?

Image
" If other religions have a concept of heaven, how can you be sure that of the many 'heavens' that are out there that the Christian heaven is the only true one? Another way of thinking about it is how can I be sure that what I believe is true? Besides the internal witness that comes from the Holy Spirit, there is one external factor that you can put total faith and trust in. This is the reason you can have complete confidence in your salvation, your hope of eternal life, and your view of heaven. This truth is the fact of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. The true hope of the Christian faith is that there is an empty tomb. In other words, because he lives, we will live also. Remember what Jesus told his disciples: 'Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.' ( John 14:19 ). There is a great glory that awaits us in heaven, far beyond anything we could ever imagine. The greatest glory of heaven will not be

accepting God's gift of love

Image
The bible tells us of God's love. God the Father created our souls in love. God the Son redeemed us from our sins. God the Holy Spirit provides us with grace to live with  "love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control". (Galations 5: 22,23)  Living the good news is not always easy for some of us. I have a particular problem with impatience. sometimes I think that my impatience and failures in dealing with adversity stem from my lack of a strong faith. I must believe that with God's love that I have all that I need to live as a faithful Christian. I happened upon this article:  Fruit of the Spirit: Patience - Blessing of Heaven     I call your attention not only to the article itself, but also:  "How to Be Saved, God's Plan of Salvation: Hear: Romans 10:17 Believe: Mark 16:16 Repent: Acts 2:38 Confess Matthew 10:32 Be Baptized: Acts 22:16; 1 Peter 3:17-22 Remain Faithful: Revelation 2:10" I hope that this helps

joy in heaven

Image
The Joy of Heaven "'No more shall there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not fill out his days, for the young man shall die a hundred years old, and the sinner a hundred years old shall be accursed.' Isaiah 65:20 Taking the last part of this verse first, Isaiah is telling us that death will be no more. He is using the analogy of what we can understand to point us toward what, right now, is beyond our grasp. It’s hard to get your mind around living for eternity, but you can understand a man living to a hundred. And so Isaiah says that living to a hundred would be nothing in the new heaven and the new earth. Commenting on this future reality, Alec Motyer says, 'Death will have no more power and sin will have no more presence.' In Revelation, it is put this way: 'Death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.' (Rev. 21:4). The joy of heaven will b
